February 6-10

For the week of 2/6/17
What We’re Learning This Week:

Reading: We will be reading the non-fiction book, “Childhood Stories of George Washington.” Students will work on asking and answering questions about key details in this text (before, during, and after reading). They will also complete a Venn diagram and share facts that they learned about George Washington. We will be administering a non-fiction mini summative assessment (cold read) with the first graders as well. We’ll be continuing guided reading and Daily 5/Centers. As always, we’ll be reading poetry weekly for fluency and expression practice.

*Please continue to read your child’s book-in-a-bag nightly with them.

Writing: The first graders will continue their informational writing unit. We will also be continuing to work on capitalization, end marks and writing detailed sentences through mini-lessons. During this unit, each child will write information books about lots of different topics and revisit his or her writing to self-assess and revise (they will name a topic, give facts, and provide a sense of closure).
